TIPS! 1] I usually animate just the torso first when I go about doing flips. It enables me to see where the body is and how fast the flip is going to be once he reaches the pinnacle of the jump.
So in this tutorial we are going to explore the magic of making your everyday stick figure aniamte a flip! Now that you've downloaded our little example .swf file above you can take a look at our first step. Creating the stick figure in a beginning crouched position.
Once we have this down we then move our next 2 frames for the stick figure in the crouching position. This builds up his strength and power for him to be able to propel himself upward. This will also give your animation a sense of gravity and weight
Now on frame 5 you notice that he begins to send his body in the upward motion. Starting first with his head and arms to swing himself up.
In frames 6 - 8 he's now thrown himself upwards and begins his flips.
n frames 9 - 11 he gradually goes up as he spins. Watch closely as the arms start to move in towards the body and just just sprawled out or extended arms like he had started out with.
In frames 12 through 16 he continues his flips but they begin to slow down as he falls quicker to the ground.
Frames 17 and 18 are spent recoiling from this feat to give the animation once again a sense of gravity and wieght.
finally in our last 2 frames the stick figure begins his standing position. That's it!
