Watch this .swf to gain the basics of a run cycle!

First thing that you may notice is that I started my stick figure finishing his step.

This allows me to easily loop the run animation back into itself. No its not a perfect example of a run, but it gets the point across. The red lines indicate to you that there is an arc in the animation, this gives the figure his bounce or lunge in the run.

If you just have the head glide across the screen he'll look like a robot that running, all flat with no bounce. Bounce can sometimes not only add realism but also personality. Where he goes to transition to his other foot you may notice that the frames aren't so far apart in movement. This gives the figure more force in his lunge which can also be a plus.
